Culture and Ethics

Different cultures have different moral values and ethical beliefs. Does this mean that there are no objective moral and ethical values that are true in themselves? What can we know about objective morality and does this give us any understanding about God? If there are really objective moral truths then we should ask how they came to be. The atheist may argue that all is relative and that there are no objective moral values. The theist will argue that there is good evidence for objective moral values and that this leads us to conclude there is a morally good and personal God. This has important implications for intelligent design theory; if God has laid down moral laws then we can infer that he is behind the creation of the universe within which such laws abide. Not only this; we can infer that such a God is a personal God who holds us personally responsible for holding to such moral laws.
